Every church has certain things that reflect its unique personality. Here’s some of the stuff we enjoy!
One of the best things we’ve found to build church community is eating together. In fact we have sort of unofficial slogan: “Food is theological.” That’s because so much of what God has done and is still doing involves food in a vital way. Think of the Garden of Eden and the Fall of humankind. Think of the manna for the Hebrews in the wilderness. Think of all Jesus’ parables about food. And remember the bread and the cup.
For all these reasons, we cram together in our church kitchen every second Sunday to share a meal together. It never fails to surprise when everyone brings something for the good of everyone.
Every summer we set aside a good number of weeks to worship outside up on a shady pine knoll on the back of our property. We bring our lawn chairs and worship with greater awareness of our place in God’s creation.
As part of our outreach ministry, we are helping those in need in our own community by contributing to the Streetsboro Community Pantry. We actually work with the Pantry and the Methodist Church to sponsor the Streetsboro Community Garden.
In 2024 our church launched the Streetsboro Community Orchard by planting about 40 apple trees on our back acreage. Although it will take several years for the trees to mature, we intend to harvest fruit for the benefit of the Streetsboro community. Growing fruit takes patience and careful attention- not unlike spiritual growth!
